Dogs of the Month

MilliMILLI - Cairn Terrier - Bitch - 15/08/2005

Milli started coming to The Dog House in June 2006 with her owner Steve at our first Agility for Fun course. Back then neither Steve nor Milli had taken part in any form of Agility now they regularly compete in competitions and have even achieved several wins! So it just goes to show that it is not just Border Collies that can do Agility! I taught Millie as a Puppy when I worked for another trainer in Peterborough and she showed potential then as a clever cookie and Steve always asked may a question so it goes without saying that they are both now regulars at The Dog House and Steve now teaches for me too!

Milli's best piece of Agility equipment has to be the weave poles, she skips through them at great speed, this is closely followed by the seesaw which she manipulates with ease considering her size! Why not enroll on our Agility course and meet both Steve and Milli and see her in action.

ALFIE - Border Collie - Dog - 07/09/2004

AlfieAlfie, just like Milli, started coming in the summer of 2006 for Agility with his owner Tracey. Alfie does not compete in Agility but definitely has the ability to, but his mummy is very busy running her own business as well as teaching Smooth Jive Dance, doing Kick Boxing and throwing Tennis Balls in the park for Alfie! However the summer of 2007 saw Alfie excel in the fast sport of Flyball. His enthusiasm for a tennis ball and his fast accurate jumping of the hurdles makes him a joy to watch. So why not enroll and join him and Tracey on our next Flyball course. Tracey has also joined Steve as one of our Instructors. Between Steve and Tracey you will soon be hooked in these exciting sports whether it is just for fun like Tracey or in the competitive field like Steve. Call now and book your place.

Hot Weather and Your Dog

The sunshine is glorious. It makes us want to pack up a picnic and head off to the park or even the beach! But don't forget that it can also be a KILLER! Leaving your dog in the car for even the shortest of time, even with the window open can have devastating results. The sun is magnified in strength through the windows of your car resulting in temperatures than can kill in minutes nit hours. If you think that there is the remotest chance that you may have to leave your dog in the car during your road trip then leave them at home. If you do decide to take them with you remember to take plenty of water for your dog to drink.

If at home why not offer your dog some ice cubes to play with in the garden or evn jump on line and look up The Company of Animals web site and try their recipes for ICE KONGS (you can buy the KONGS form us at your next visit).

If your dog is going to be outside for long periods offer them periods of rest in the shade and don't forget to apply sun cream to exposed areas such as their nose and tummy - check with your vet for creams that are safe to use.

If you are going out and leaving your dog at home make sure they are in a cool room and not in a hot conservatory, ensure their water bowl is full.
